The Future Proofers
2x47’ Documentary Episodes

Production: MAKE Waves

In episode one, Bangkok’s social media-savvy Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, known as “The World’s Strongest Minister”, takes to the streets to listen to the people
and find the root cause of the annual flooding and air pollution that plagues the city. Yet, his easy-going leadership style is tested as he is inundated with citizen’s complaints.
He takes inspiration from Quezon City’s Mayor Joy Belmonte, who is on a personal mission to clean up one of the biggest trash-producing cities in the Philippines.
After a life-defining experience in the aftermath of Typhoon Ketsana, Mayor Joy and her team are piloting a grassroots project to reduce plastic consumption in the poorest communities.
But it’s not an easy task, as she battles to change the age-old Filipino culture of buying single-use plastic sachets.

In episode two, local residents are tracking down Mayor Eri Cahyadi in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city.
A new kind of leader, he’s often found engaging with citizens on the streets, but with their homes flooded regularly, they aren’t going to rest until he’s committed to solutions.
Cyclone Michaung devastated Chennai in December 2023, in the aftermath, an oil leak has had catastrophic consequences for one fishing community.
Indian Administrative Officer Supriya Sahu, a pioneer of environmental change, is turning to nature,
planting a mega mangrove forest to act as a natural storm barrier and bring the coastline back to life.
